Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in Africa and the majority of the population does not have access to mainstream media. Because of this, community radio stations are a very important source of news and information. These stations broadcast the majority of their programmes in local languages and can act as a catalyst for social change as they play an essential role in distributing public service information. Our Mozambique Media Strengthening Programme – Community Radios project aimed at increasing the ability of local radio stations to provide quality information to listeners and to improve their financial and technical sustainability. It was funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and part of a larger program funded by USAID and implemented by IREX in Maputo.
