Afef – JAMIL.Net
From training youth on Media and Information Literacy to countering Fake News during the COVID-19 pandemic in Tunisia.
Afef develops the youth’s capacities, whom she calls “her children”, and allows them to discover the media in detail, both in Tunisia and elsewhere. Her work became even more relevant with the COVID-19 pandemic and the fake news spreading on social media. In this context, Afef created with the youth an Instagram page to collect information and verify it.
Indeed, through the JAMIL.Net project, Afef took part in a training to become a MIL (media and information literacy) focal point at the Maison des jeunes (Youth center) Ibn Khaldoun (Tunis). She was already interested in societal issues and read the national and international press. Thanks to these trainings, Afef developed new skills in this field and distinguished herself from the other participants. She then set up MIL activities with youths at the MJs in Ibn Khaldoun.
Afef is passionate about her job and the work she does on the JAMIL.Net project. She contributes to the Tunisian society by training many youths on MIL and by teaching them to have a critical look at the news that we all see and read.
